What is cloud hosting in fact? The word 'cloud' appears to be quite modern in today's information technology, World Wide Web and hosting parlance. Still, just a select few actually can tell what cloud hosting is. Probably it is a smart idea to educate yourself about cloud hosting services. To render a quite lengthy story short, we will first enlighten you on what cloud hosting is not.

1. Cloud Hosting is Not Restricted to a Remote Data Storage Solely.

1. Supplying a remote file storage solution, which involves one single data storage device for all clients, does not turn any given service provider into a genuine cloud hosting corporation.

The cPanel web hosting companies dub the ability to offer remote data storage solutions a cloud hosting solution. So far there is nothing wrong with the cloud terminology, but... we are talking about web hosting solutions, not remote data storage solutions for individual or business needs. There's invariably one "but", isn't there? It's not enough to call a shared hosting solution, powered by a single-server hosting platform, exactly like cPanel, a "cloud hosting" service. This is so because the remaining constituents of the whole hosting platform must be functioning in exactly the same way - this does not apply only to the remote disk storage. The rest of the services entailed in the entire hosting procedure also need to be remote, separated and "clouded". And that's really tough. A very meager number of hosting suppliers can truly attain it.

2. It Includes Domains, Email Accounts, Databases, FTPs, Hosting CPs, and so on.

Cloud hosting is not limited to a remote file storage solely. We are discussing a hosting service, serving plenty of domains, web sites, e-mail addresses, etc., aren't we?

To call a hosting service a "cloud hosting" one needs a lot more than providing only remote file storage mounts (or perchance physical servers). The e-mail server(s) must be devoted just to the e-mail related services. Executing nothing different than these given tasks. There might be only one or possibly an entire array of electronic mail servers, depending on the overall server load produced. To have an actual cloud hosting solution, the remote database servers should be working as one, regardless of their real number. Carrying out nothing different. The same is valid for the customers' hosting Control Panels, the File Transfer Protocol, and so on.

3. There are Cloud Domain Servers (DNSs) too.

The DNSs (Domain Name Servers) of a true cloud hosting vendor will support numerous server farm sites on multiple continents.

Here's an instance of a DNS of a true cloud hosting vendor:

dns1.magahost.net

dns2.magahost.net

If such a DNS is furnished by your web hosting supplier, it's not a sure thing that there is a cloud hosting platform in use, but you can absolutely be confident when you discern a Domain Name Server such as the one beneath:

dns658.hostgator.com

dns659.hostgator.com

that there isn't any cloud web hosting platform. This type of Domain Name Server only shows that the hosting platform in use is one-server based. Maybe it's cPanel. cPanel is a one-server web hosting platform and maintains a 98+ percent market share. In cPanel's case, a single physical server tackles all web hosting services (web, mail, DNS, databases, FTP, web hosting CP(s), files, and so on).

Remote File Storage - The Twisted Characterization of Cloud Hosting.

So, a cloud hosting service is not confined exclusively to a remote data storage service, as plenty of hosting service providers wish it was. Unfortunately for them, if that was the case, most of the file hosting corporations would have been referred to as cloud hosting ones long ago! They are not referred to as such, because they plainly offer file web hosting services, not cloud hosting services. The file web hosting platform looks indeed quite simple, when compared to the web hosting platform. The remote disk storage platform is not a cloud hosting platform. It cannot be, as it's simply one tiny constituent of the whole cloud hosting platform. There's plenty more to be found in the cloud hosting platform: the web hosting CP cloud, the database clouds (MySQL, PostgreSQL), the DNS cloud, the File Transfer Protocol cloud, the e-mail cloud and... in the foreseeable future, probably a couple of new clouds we presently are not acquainted with will show up out of the blue.
